Thank you to all those who made it to our last General Meeting on January 20th. The majority of the meeting was spent discussing the recent fraud situation. The attached minutes give a thorough summary of the conversation if you weren’t able to attend. Our next General Meeting will likely be held on Friday March 10th at 8.30am in the Library at Lower Bell. We’ll send confirmation of the date and time in due course.
We need volunteers at Magic Hat! Your contribution is really appreciated by the Bell School PTO and makes a BIG difference to our income – and ultimately the children at Bell School.
It’s our designated week this week (Jan 24-28) and we’re appealing to both our regular volunteers and the wider Bell community to give up whatever time they can to get down to ‘The Hat’. You don’t have to sign up in advance (but thanks to those of you who have!). If you can spare the time, please just drop in!
A great suggestion offered by regular volunteer Nancy Mahan was to ‘BRING A BUDDY’ along when you volunteer. You get to catch up with your friend, have fun and double your contribution. Easy!
Of course, it’s not only this week that matters. We have from now until April to try and REACH OUR TARGET of 180 volunteer hours to guarantee our next funding contribution. We’re currently at 67 hours and have the next 10 weeks to make up the difference. Can you help us?
As a reward for your time, we’ll be running a prize draw to win a (donated) SHUBIES gift card. Everyone who volunteers this week is in with a chance! Good luck!
Thank you for HELPING make a BIG difference.
Hello Bell School Families! Here’s your weekly update. This Friday, we’ll be having our monthly PTO meeting, where we’ll be sharing the latest update on the recent fraud situation. We’d love to see as many of you there as possible. We’re also on the look out for volunteers to help at some future fun events. If you can spare the time, we’d love to hear from you.
Wednesday January 18 – Harvest of the Month tasting: Apples
Friday January 20 – PTO General Meeting including an update on the fraud situation, 8.30am. Upper Bell Library. All welcome
Tuesday January 24 – Saturday January 28 – Magic Hat Week
Harvest of the Month will be on Wednesday, January 18. This month Bell School students will taste Apple & Cabbage Slaw. The apples used in this recipe are from the Connecticut River Valley. Parents interested in helping with serving the tasting (about an hour commitment) please email parent volunteer Sarah Fox – firstname.lastname@example.org
The goal of this campaign is to encourage healthy food choices by increasing students’ exposure to seasonal fruits and vegetables while also supporting local farmers. For more information on the Mass Farm to Schools Harvest of the Month program please visit http://www.massfarmtoschool.org/
We currently have many open volunteering positions and would love your help if you’re able to spare some time.

We also have the following fun and popular events planned for the coming months. We would love some extra volunteers to help run and coordinate these events. In each case, you’ll have the support of PTO Board members. Thank you to those of you who have already come forward! If you’re willing to help on any of the events detailed below, please let us know by signing up at: www.SignUpGenius.com/go/30E0F44ACAC2BA4FE3-supporting
- 1st Grade Event
- 2nd Grade Event
- Bell School Bingo Night
- Bell School Science Fair
We’re adding new volunteering positions all the time. To keep on track of what’s coming up and where we need help, please visit: https://www.bellpto.org/geese/volunteer-opportunities/ regularly.
Bell School received a check last week from Box Tops for $319 following the coupon contest run in the Fall, managed by Sarah Fox. Thank you Sarah! Please continue to bring in your coupons and place them in the buckets at the reception front desks. They all add up! There will also be another contest coming soon – so watch this space!
The pre-holiday Poinsettia Sale was also a great success. Thank you to everyone who purchased plants – we hope you enjoyed them. We’re currently totaling up the final figures, but are confident the sale raised well over $1,000 for Bell School Organic Garden. The next fundraising event, specifically to raise funds for the garden will be the popular annual Chili Night. More information coming soon!
Do you have a gently used iPad that’s no longer needed at home? The school will gladly take it off your hands and put it to good use in the classroom! As long as it is newer than an i-Pad 2, they can use it. It just needs to be in working order with a working power port. Drop off at the front desk and let Gayle or Jennifer know it’s a donation to the school. It can then be cleaned up and set up with the necessary programs and then used by the students.
Have a good week!
We have 4 key events due to take place this Winter/Spring and the PTO need some extra pairs of hands to help make them happen!
We’re looking for 1-2 volunteers to take the lead in coordinating the following events:
- 1st Grade event
- 2nd Grade event
- Bell School Bingo Night
- Bell School Science Fair
If you’re willing to get involved in these fun, popular events please sign up and we’ll be in touch! In each case you’ll have the support and involvement from the PTO.
Our next designated week at Magic Hat runs from Tuesday Jan 24 thru to Saturday Jan 28 2017. Please volunteer if you can – and encourage your other family members too! Every hour volunteered counts towards Bell’s allocation – and earns the school over $50 which goes directly towards funding cultural enrichment programs, benefitting the students in every grade.

Volunteering outside our designated weeks also counts, just pop in Tuesday – Friday between 10am and 2pm and sign in and out under Bell School.
Thank you to all our past, current and future volunteers. Your time really counts.
